Very few teams in the state have dominated quite like Pelican Rapids has. The Vikings (18-0, 9-0) have yet to lose a game so far this season, and aside from a 66-64 win at Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton on Dec. 6, they've towered over the competition.
The Vikings' Greta Tollefson and Anna Stephenson have each scored 20 or more points in a game this season.
To escape from the Class 2A, Section 8 south subsection, the No. 9-2A Vikings would likely need to make it past No. 2-2A Fergus Falls. But if it can, Heart O’ Lakes Conference rival Hawley (12-3, 7-1) looks to be a contender in the north subsection.
The Nuggets have gone 7-1 in January, with the defeat coming in a 63-36 stumble to Fergus Falls on Jan. 14.
Paige Thompson could be an asset for the Nuggets down the stretch this season. The 6-foot-3 senior center scored 26 points in a 67-58 victory over Perham on Jan. 7.
